How Print Size Calculation Works
The physical size of a printed image depends on its pixel dimensions and the DPI (dots per inch) used for the print calculation.
Divide the image width and height in pixels by the selected DPI to calculate the corresponding dimensions in inches.
Print Height (inches) = Pixel Height ÷ DPI
Centimeters = Inches × 2.54
Example: 2400 × 3000 Pixels
At 300 DPI, a 2400 × 3000 pixel image produces an approximately 8 × 10 inch print.
3000 ÷ 300 = 10 inches
Therefore: 8 × 10 inches
What Does DPI Mean?
DPI stands for dots per inch. It is commonly used when describing print resolution. For a fixed pixel dimension, a higher DPI setting results in a smaller calculated physical print size, while a lower DPI setting results in a larger calculated print size.
Does DPI Change Image Pixels?
No. DPI and pixel dimensions describe different aspects of an image. Changing the DPI used in this calculator does not add or remove pixels from the image. It changes the calculated physical dimensions at which those pixels would be distributed for print.
